UST hosts inaugural Legal Education Technology and Inclusion Summit

The University of Santo Tomas held the inaugural Legal Education Technology and Inclusion Summit from November 14-15, 2025, at the Grand Ballroom.

The summit was held in collaboration with the Faculty of Civil Law, Graduate School of Law, and Legal Education Board.

With the theme “Digital Law Ed: Driving Innovation and Growth through Inclusive Technology Access to Legal Education,” the summit highlighted transformative approaches to teaching law, integrating digital tools, and ensuring equitable access to legal education across diverse communities; it brought together legal educators, students, technologists, and advocates to explore the future of legal education through the lens of innovation and inclusion.

Graduate School of Law Dean Atty. Jacqueline O. Lopez-Kaw, DCL, tackled “Legal Education Advancement: Trends, Challenges, Ways Forward” in the opening remarks, while UST Secretary-General Rev. fr. Louie R. Coronel, O.P., EHL delivered the welcoming message.

Multimedia Reporters Marisol Abdurahman and Jairo Bolled lectured on “Rule of Law vs. Rule of Lies: How Law Schools can Fight Digital Misinformation”.

GS Law alumna Atty. Kristy Jane Balino discussed “Enhancing Legal Pedagogy through Artificial Intelligence: Applications for Syllabus Design, Assessment, and Student Engagement”.

Hon. Jason R. Barlis discussed “Smart Tools for Smarter Law Students: Learning Law in the Digital Age.”

Hon. Salex E. Alibogha, Prof. John Paul C. Vergara, Atty. Teodoro A. Pastrana, Atty. Joan S. Largo lectured on “Technology and the Future of Legal Education Landscape.”

Atty. Ralph Sarmiento lectured on “Teaching Law in the Age of AI: Cultivating Critical Thinkers not Copy-pasters.”

Atty. Oliver Xavier Reyes discussed “Learning Law in the Age of AI: Critical Thinkers not Copy-pasters.”

Atty. Cheselden George V. Carmona discussed “Research 4.0: Upskilling Legal Educators and Students with AI for Academic and Legal Research.”

GS Law academic staff Atty. Jay-R C. Ipac, Atty. Senado Angelo R. Santiago talked about “AI as Co-counsel? Legal Ethics in the Age of Chatbots.”

Atty. Edsel Tupaz discussed “Protecting Confidentiality in an AI-driven World.”

Atty. Ken Bautista and Atty. Ram Michael M. Santos discussed “Technology for All: AI and Access to Justice.”

Atty. Migs Nograles lent his expertise in “Building Your Legal Brand: Personal Identity and Professional Voice.”

Atty. Ira Paolo Pozon lectured on “The Search for Accountability: Regulating AI in the Philippines.”

Atty. Herminio Bagro III talked about “Legal Tech Solutions: A Primer on E-Signatures and the New Philippine E Notarization Rules.”

GS Law alumnus and academic staff Hon. Assoc. Justice Gener M. Gito talked about “Can an Al take the stand? AI and the Rules of Evidence.”

Prof. William Emmanuel Yu discussed “Cybersecurity and the Professional Liability in the Legal Profession.”

GS Law alumna and academic staff Atty. Alessandra Fay Albarico talked about “Who owns AI-created knowledge? Intellectual Property and Academic Research.”

Atty. Marian Coquia-Regidor lectured on “Smart Clinics, Better Learning, Greater Access: Technology to Strengthen Clinical Legal Education.”

Dr. Emmanuel James Pattaguan discussed “The AI-enhanced Professor: Simplifying Syllabi, Rubrics, Assessment, and Curriculum Mapping.”

Atty. Yasmine Lee R. Tadeo and Atty. Raquel Dujunco talked about “Barriers and Opportunities in Adopting Technology.”

Mr. Ronnel Lazaro tackled “Levelling the Scales: Assistive-Inclusive Technologies for Legal Education.”

Lastly, Atty. Jocelle Batapa-Sigue discussed “Teaching the Nation How Law and Technology Shape an Inclusive Philippines.”
